I was fortunate to receive a review copy of the Linux Kernel Programming - Second Edition by Kaiwan N Billimoria. The book is an excellent resource for Linux Kernel programming and Kaiwan does an equally excellent job on taking the reader step by step through the concepts and process. I also appreciate the fact that it is written in such a way that those new to Linux or the Linux kernel can get just as much information from the book as a reader that is well versed in Linux. Chapters 1-3 provide a great background on the Linux kernel and compiling the kernel from source. Chapter 1 provides a great job taking the reader to building the workspace for building out the kernel which flows to Chapter 2 on the actual kernel build/compilation. Chapter 3 continues where Chapter 2 left off allowing you to complete the kernel build/compilation. The book is laid out in a very ordered and programmatic way that makes it easy to understand and digest complex topics and concepts. While I appreciate Chapters 4 and 5 on how to write Kernel modules, but most of all I am thankful that Kaiwan spends three chapters on memory management with Chapters 7-9. This is a great resource and just another book to place in your library.
