This page explains what you may and may not do with original material published on secdoc.tech. It is a copyright and permissions notice, not an open-content license.
1. Scope
Unless a page, download, repository, or embedded work states otherwise, this policy applies to original material published on secdoc.tech, including:
- articles and other written content
- diagrams, illustrations, graphics, and photographs
- downloadable documents and presentation material
- site design elements and original visual assets
- the secdoc name, logos, and associated branding
This policy does not override a separate license expressly attached to a particular work. It also does not claim ownership of third-party material.
2. Copyright and reservation of rights
Original secdoc.tech content is copyright © Lester E. Nichols III. All rights reserved except for the limited permissions stated below or rights granted in writing.
Publication on secdoc.tech does not place material in the public domain. Access to content does not grant a license to reproduce, republish, distribute, adapt, translate, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit it.
Attribution is required for any use permitted by this policy, but attribution alone does not grant permission to copy, reproduce, republish, redistribute, adapt, mirror, or commercially exploit protected content.
3. Linking, citation, and limited quotation
You may:
- link to a publicly available secdoc.tech page
- identify or cite an article for reference, commentary, criticism, scholarship, teaching, or reporting
- quote a brief excerpt when the amount used is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose
Permission under this section applies only when you:
- clearly identify Lester E. Nichols III as the author or creator
- name secdoc.tech as the original publisher
- identify the title of the source material
- provide a direct link to the original page when the medium permits
- preserve the meaning and context of the quoted material
- do not imply sponsorship, endorsement, affiliation, or approval
This limited permission does not authorize copying an entire work or reproducing a substantial portion of one.
Recommended attribution
For a permitted quotation from an article:

4. Uses requiring prior written permission
Prior written permission is required before you:
- reproduce or republish an article in full
- reproduce a substantial portion of an article or collection
- copy, mirror, archive, or syndicate content for republication
- distribute copies through a website, newsletter, book, course, document repository, application, or other platform
- adapt, rewrite, translate, abridge, annotate, or create a derivative work for distribution
- use an original diagram, image, graphic, or downloadable document outside the limited quotation permission above
- sell, license, monetize, or otherwise commercially exploit content
- use content in advertising, marketing, sponsorship, or product promotion
- remove or obscure copyright, attribution, source, or rights notices
- use the content or branding in a way that suggests endorsement, partnership, certification, or affiliation
Attribution does not remove the requirement to obtain permission for these uses.
5. Automated collection, datasets, and machine learning
Except as permitted by applicable law or authorized in writing, you may not use automated means to collect secdoc.tech content for:
- bulk copying or archival for republication
- creation or enrichment of a commercial or publicly distributed dataset
- ingestion into a competing publication, knowledge base, or retrieval service
- training, fine-tuning, evaluation, or grounding of a machine-learning or generative artificial-intelligence system
- generation of substitute content intended to reproduce the expressive substance of the original material
Ordinary search-engine indexing that directs users to the original secdoc.tech page is not prohibited by this section, provided it respects applicable technical controls and does not republish substantial content.
6. Separately licensed code and documentation
Some source code, configuration, documentation, diagrams, or other artifacts linked from secdoc.tech are released under an express license in a Git repository or with the artifact itself. Those materials are governed by their stated licenses.
For example, a repository may license code under the Apache License 2.0 and documentation under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. If an express artifact license conflicts with this policy, the express artifact license controls for that artifact.
A link to a repository does not apply the repository's license to unrelated website articles or assets. Likewise, this website policy does not withdraw rights already granted under an express open-source or open-content license.
The Markdown source of this policy is maintained in the private secdoc/docs repository. The repository's documentation license governs reuse of that source file. This policy governs the other content published on secdoc.tech unless separate terms apply.
7. Third-party material
Third-party trademarks, quotations, screenshots, software, photographs, icons, fonts, and other materials remain the property of their respective owners and are governed by their applicable licenses or legal terms.
Permission from secdoc.tech does not grant permission to use third-party material. You are responsible for identifying and complying with third-party rights.
8. Trademarks and endorsement
The secdoc name, logos, distinctive branding, and related identifiers may not be used in a manner that is likely to cause confusion or imply sponsorship, endorsement, certification, affiliation, or approval.
Accurate nominative reference to secdoc.tech is permitted when reasonably necessary to identify the source and when it does not imply endorsement.
9. Permission requests
For republication, educational distribution, translations, commercial use, visual-asset use, or another use not expressly permitted here, submit a request through a contact method published on the secdoc.tech About page.
Include:
- your name and organization
- the exact work and URL
- the portion you want to use
- the purpose, audience, and distribution method
- whether the use is commercial
- any edits, translations, or adaptations you propose
- the duration and geographic scope of the requested use
Permission is valid only when granted in writing by the copyright owner or an authorized representative. Silence or failure to respond is not permission.
10. Legal exceptions
Nothing in this policy is intended to restrict rights that cannot lawfully be restricted, including applicable copyright exceptions or limitations. If you rely on fair use, fair dealing, or another statutory exception, you are responsible for determining whether your use qualifies.
The attribution conditions in this policy apply to permissions granted by this policy. They do not alter the requirements of an independently applicable statutory exception.
11. Enforcement and changes
Unauthorized use may result in a request to remove the material, a platform or hosting-provider notice, or other available enforcement action.
This policy may be updated as the website, publication model, or applicable requirements change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. A change does not revoke rights previously granted under a separate written agreement or express artifact license.

Content published on secdoc.tech, including this policy, is provided for informational purposes and is not legal advice. Organizations and individuals should obtain advice from qualified counsel for questions about copyright, licensing, fair use, privacy, or other legal obligations.
