# OPNsense 24.7 Release - Thriving Tiger

I use several different firewalls within my home network, from different vendors and for different requirements. They all have pros and cons and part of the reason for using different firewalls within my environment. With this in mind, [OPNsense](https://opnsense.org/?ref=secdoc.tech) just released their latest major release 24.7, Thriving Tiger. OPNsense is a FreeBSD-based firewall/router appliance originally forked from the [pfSense](https://www.pfsense.org/?ref=secdoc.tech) project. It has really come into its own in recent years. I have been using it since the release was made available. It is a great release and looks great as well. Also, I am not one of those that fights over pfSense versus OPNsense because I use both, but this new release definitely deserves a call out.
